WESCO
Orientation Training Video
WESCO Distribution is an industrial supplier and provider of an extensive offering of electrical, data communications, general maintenance, repair, and operations (MRO) and electrical OEM products. With a growing number of international branches and new acquisitions year-over-year, WESCO employees are wide spread. Stemming from a need to provide a consistent and effective orientation program, WESCO set out to transform numerous presentations and print materials into a single, cohesive and accessible medium in which to present new employees with background and current information on WESCO Distribution.
To achieve the goal, Apple Box Studios conducted research and strategy development, learning the company background and all aspects of the current, new employee orientation process. After gathering a library of information, Apple Box was ready to determine ways to improve the process and the most efficient and effective delivery method. Partnering with WESCO's IT department, Apple Box was able to develop an interactive, flash-based interface that can be housed on WESCO's intranet and help supervisors track the progress of their employees as they complete the training. The implementation was so successful, WESCO later required all current employees to complete the training in order to keep themselves current on all of the rapid changes happening within the company and branches all over the world.
ITXM
Donor First
The Institute for Transfusion Medicine (ITxM) operates Central Blood Bank in Pittsburgh and Life Source in Chicago. While its blood donation staff is well trained technically with regard to safety and regulatory procedures, they have little or no customer service training or awareness. With blood donations decreasing, ITxM embarked upon an enterprise-wide donor service initiative that was to permeate the entire organization. Known as DonorFirst, the program set out to create positive and lasting cultural change across ITxM. More specifically, the goal of DonorFirst was to effectively change the way employees think about and interact with donors.

To accomplish this, Apple Box Studios conducted extensive research and strategy development including executive interviews, donor focus groups, employee focus groups, and donation procedure audits. This strategic due diligence led to several communication practices and goals. We first developed three DonorFirst principles to provide a framework to all communication efforts: awareness, acknowledgement and accountability. Tactically, we encouraged employees to personally connect with each donor through the three E’s: engage, educate and explain.
Delivered both online via the ITxM intranet and in large training sessions, DonorFirst is a Flash-based tool consisting of interactive games, animations, videos, and supporting print materials. All training is facilitated by DonorFirst leaders and supported by a rewards program.
